Change 'Never' to 'Best time ever'!

Posted: 21 February 2018

‘National Citizen Service’ (NCS) is a programme which provides opportunities for young people to gain skills and experiences that will support them throughout their life. The programme is government backed and employers nationwide recognise the commitment and achievement of being an NCS Graduate. NCS is about giving young people the opportunity to learn things that can’t be taught in the classroom enabling them to get the best possible start to their adult lives.

The programme is designed to build upon independence and confidence for young people aged 15 – 17 years old (School Years 11 and 12). The programme has personal and social development aspects as well as being challenging to ensure that it is as effective and fun as possible for all taking part.

The NCS Trust believes that if young people are provided the opportunity then they will proactively be able to make a difference within their communities. To ensure that this is possible ,the programme enables them to get together to try new experiences and with the support of the team they are set a tasks to design, plan and deliver a social action project that will make an impact to their local communities where they live.

The 2018 programme will start at the end of June , it will be split into waves of either 3-4 weeks, whereby  2 weeks will be a residential trip (1 based in Birmingham and the 2nd locally), which will then be followed by either 1 or 2 weeks focused on the social action plan in the young people’s local area.

YC Hertfordshire is looking for highly motivated and energetic individuals with experience of working with young people to help enabling them to grow in confidence and gain resilience. You’ll encourage everyone to try new things, to develop their abilities (and gain brand new ones), and to forge new friendships along the way. Every successful candidate will gain skills and experience which will enhance their CV and they will receive a 2-day paid training in May /June.  Individuals will also have a competitive pay whereby they can earn on average £1400 per 4 week wave and paid travel, accommodation and meals during the residential stay.
