As well as changes to how apprenticeships are funded, there is a renewed effort to promote apprenticeships as work based qualifications, equivalent to an NVQ level 2 - 7, which is up to postgraduate degree level, all whilst receiving a salary. They provide valuable on the job experience and let apprentices build workplace relationships which they would not have access to in other types of training or education.
Apprenticeships are not just for young people, they are now available to anyone of any age or background who are looking to learn new skills or want a career change. Apprenticeship qualifications will also provide opportunities for existing staff to continue their professional development without changing their contract or salary.
