What is it?

This traineeship offers supported employment for 16 - 24 year olds who are looking to take their first steps into the world of adult care work.

On this programme, you'll find out what it's like to be in contracted employment and to make a real difference to the lives of some of Hertfordshire’s most vulnerable people.



Supported employment?

Our team work around the clock to provide a safe, tolerant and understanding environment for our Level 1’s throughout their year.

We understand you need to balance your work with your home life. This programme can help you become the best version of yourself, as well as showing you what employment is like.

Your manager will be your mentor. They can work with you to find out exactly what you really want to achieve, or just lend an ear if you need to talk.

About our traineeship programme

  • You will receive weekly grant payments of £110.00 (this isn't considered a salary, so it shouldn't interfere with any benefits you receive).
  • You will kick-start your programme with 2 weeks' induction training in Stevenage.
  • You will be appointed on a 1 year fixed term contract (starting in October).
  • You will work 29 hours per week Monday - Friday: 4 days in placement and 1 educational day.
  • You will experience up to 2 placements during your employment.

Whilst you're in placement, you'll be helping adults with care needs to live their best independent life. You'll be involved in a range of activities like assisting at lunch times, leading group activities and daily socialising with clients. You won't have to do any personal care, one-to-one working or moving and handling people.


  • age 16-24

  • no previous qualifications or work experience required.

What’s the educational side of things?

Our educational team will help you gain the following qualifications:

  • level 1 health and social care
  • level 1 preparing to work in adult care
  • functional skills in English and maths.
Our learning environment is both professional and relaxed. You'll be in a group of no more than 7 learners, all working in the training room to complete the tasks set that day. You'll be producing work relevant to your abilities with lots of practical sessions to keep your learning as interactive as possible.

What about when I finish?

When you finish you will have gained

  • 12 months of contracted work experience and a reference from Hertfordshire County Council
  • practical placement experience in up to 2 two different settings, working to support adults with care needs
  • 2 qualifications, plus English and maths functional skills.
  • access to events and charity gigs which the Level 1’s support throughout, adding to your experience.

You will also get a supported learning session to help you create your best CV and covering letter, as well as interview lessons and mock practice. This will all help you to apply for the next stage in your career.

Here are some of the positons our past Level 1’s have moved into:

  • level 2 adult social care traineeship
  • NHS healthcare assistant/clinical assistant worker
  • adult care work in the private sector (including an NVQ Level 2 qualification)
  • pharmacy apprentice.
