Our Assessment Team undertakes assessments of children and young people in line with requirements from the Children Act 1989 to establish their health and development needs. This includes speaking with key professionals who know the child and family such as schools, police, probation, health (GP, Health Visitor etc).
The team aims to promote the children’s upbringing within their families and use special interview techniques to help families come up with plans that will ensure they can safely care for their children.
Joint Child Protection Investigation Team (JCPIT)
The Joint Child Protection Investigation Team (JCPIT) works primarily on cases where from the outset, it appears that a crime may have been committed against a child by their parent/carer and therefore requires investigating by Police and Social Care jointly.
Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH)
The Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub is a team of staff from Children’s Social Care, Police, Health, Probation and our local Community Rehabilitation Company, BeNCH.
The team reviews referrals sent by our call centre or those triaged by the Police Domestic Abuse unit as requiring a multi-agency review and decides whether the child and family need help and support from targeted or universal services or whether we need to undertake a Child & Family Assessment via one of the Assessment Teams.
