Residential and Attachment, Regulation and Competency Services are among the specialist services provided by Hertfordshire County Council for children, young people and their families.

ARC Services deliver a variety of therapeutic services, such as outreach and support following harmful sexual behavior, rapid-response, Short Breaks and a Families Together Program (FTP).

Residential and ARC Services use the ARC (Attachment, Regulation, Competency) framework as our underpinning practice model, alongside Non Violent Resistance (NVR). This offers children and young people a therapeutic environment.

We have seven residential children's homes across Hertfordshire County. You can see what each home offers and their areas of expertise below.

Care roles

Residential child care workers

focus on providing nurturing care to children with trauma backgrounds. This shift-based role involves daily care, medication administration, and ensuring the home is safe. No formal qualifications needed, but a resilient personality and dedication to making a difference are essential.

Senior residential child care workers

are responsible for managing routines, overseeing appointments, coordinating daily activities and administering medication. The role also involves preparing reports, chairing meetings, and representing the residential care home in court.

Children's residential care worker academy

This is an intensive 6-month program designed to shape compassionate individuals into skilled professionals. Gain access to specialised training, undertake two work placements, and experience a high level of support throughout the learning journey.
