Occupational therapist

Newly qualified occupational therapists – if you have recently completed your occupational therapy degree, you'll be enrolled onto our Supported and Assessed First Year In Employment Programme for Newly Qualified Occupational Therapists (NQOT Programme) with all the benefits and support available for a newly Qualified occupational therapist.

  

Senior occupational therapist

Requirements for the senior role include actively undertaking a specialist role e.g. Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), Best Interests Assessor (BIA), occupational therapy practice educator, or moving and handling specialist function role. Alternatively, an agreement to undertake at least one of these roles within the first year.

About occupational therapy in Hertfordshire Adult Care Services

As an Adult Care Services occupational therapist, you'll hold your own caseload and work in partnership with people living in the community across Hertfordshire. You'll undertake a holistic assessment of need to identify person-centred outcomes.

We work in an enabling way with people and their families and carers, to promote independence and participation, through meaningful occupation and a strengths-based approach. Across all our services we aim to ensure that people are provided with the right support and advice, and at the right time.

We work collaboratively alongside social care colleagues, as well as with our health partners, housing and care providers, and a range of community support services.

Your role will also include an opportunity to mentor and develop others.

 

Key aspects

  • Promote belonging and a strength-based approach to therapy, facilitating active participation in meaningful occupation and activity.
  • Complete a specialist assessment to identify functional and access needs, and make recommendations for key pieces of equipment and/or housing solutions.
  • Provide information and advice to enable an individual to confidently and safely participate in their daily life, includes grading of tasks and activities, and adapting the environment.
  • Provide mentoring, advice, and support to colleagues and contribute to the development of others.

 

You'll need:

  • a recognised occupational therapy qualification and be registered with The Health and Care Professions Council
  • to ensure practice is consistent with The Royal College of Occupational Therapists’ Professional standards for occupational therapy practice, conduct and ethics, and the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Occupational therapy
  • knowledge and experience of relevant social care legislation, such as the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • to be a confident team member with good decision-making skills
  • the ability to work successfully with partners and other agencies.

Gateway teams

Our Connected Lives Gateway Service is the front door to adult social care in Hertfordshire and aims to prevent, reduce and delay need by ensuring people can access a wide range of information, advice and support. We’re making a significant investment in prevention, offering a unique opportunity to shape services that deliver better outcomes for people.

We’re recruiting occupational therapists to support the Gateway Service to deliver our vision by working with people through short-term, focused interventions.

 

Gateway teams

  • Gateway Connections – this multi-disciplinary team of occupational therapists, social workers and community care officers works flexibly, both from the office and remote locations, to bring together a vast amount of experience and skill in providing initial assessments and tailored information to new people approaching adult social care. You would be working alongside a variety of partners to achieve the best preventative solutions.
  • Gateway Assessment East / West – providing short term focused assessments for people who would benefit from a preventative or enabling approach to social care.  A multi-disciplinary team of occupational therapists, social workers and community care officers providing first time assessments in the community for a period of up to 12 weeks. We are really passionate about prevention – these community teams are looking for more like minded colleagues to push our prevention targets further.
  • Gateway Housing Solutions – This dynamic team of Occupational Therapists and Trusted Assessors (CCOs) work together to provide specialist assessments and specifications for major housing adaptations and some minor equipment for people’s homes. Join us to become part of this fundamental team that are increasing independence at home for residents of Hertfordshire.
  • Gateway Enablement Occupational Therapy – Our rapidly growing Enablement Occupational Therapy Team are providing specialist assessments, interventions and advice to people who require an enabling therapy plan in order to regain or retain a level of independence. This team works closely with all services across the system, providing Occupational Therapy and specialist Community Care Officers as therapy assistants to provide enabling plans to increase and maintain independence at home.

Adult disability team

Based in Hemel Hempstead and Stevenage and working across services within those areas, the Adult Disability Service provides support to adults living with a learning or physical disability.

We aim to enable people to make positive decisions in their lives, promote their independence and ensure they can get involved in their local community. We're a service motivated by and dedicated to social care intervention and community social work.

We’re looking for occupational therapists and senior occupational therapists  who can engage with people, promoting and enabling inclusive community options, as well as self-directed purchased services. The teams are community-based and applicants will need to have a full UK driving licence.  

We also offer hybrid-working, working from the office a minimum of 2 days a week.

This is a fast-paced environment. Our locality teams focus on complex cases and include general assessments and care planning. You'll support with:

  • completing care needs assessment
  • developing innovative support plans
  • building networks
  • raising awareness in the area and developing valuable links for the team. 

 

You'll work alongside community care officers, community learning disability nurses and occupational therapists to achieve the best outcomes for the people you work with.

Older people team

The Older Person Service is a dynamic service that works across the community under the Care Act to safeguard,  assess, plan support and review adults and cares with long term health and social care needs. We have a range of teams within Older People services, including locality based teams, both residential and community reviewing teams, crisis intervention and prevention of hospital admission teams, and sensory services.  We can offer hybrid working arrangements, flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities. 


 

About the role

Our occupational therapists will combine a caseload with mentoring and developing others.

You will:

  • promote a strength-based approach to therapy, facilitating active participation in meaningful occupation and activity
  • assess and make recommendations for complex and non-complex pieces of equipment
  • assist the management team with supervising the day-to-day performance
  • work alongside community care officers to give guidance with occupational therapy assessment needs
  • disseminating and coaching best practices to help teams understand changes and improvements.
